Agaricus placomyces Peck, Ann. Rep. N.Y. St. Mus. nat. Hist. 29: 40 (1878) [1876]

Fruiting body medium to large. Pileus 6-10 cm wide, convex, margin entire, umbonate, white, surface having greyish brown scales, radially splitting on maturity, on rubbing, the surface turns brownish; lamellae  pink to light brown, turning dark at maturity, free, crowded. Stipe 5-9 x 0.5 cm wide, white, fibrous with bulbous base. Annulus present, white, membranous. Basidiospores 4.2-5.4×2.2-3.4 µm, ellipsoid, apiculate with central guttules. Basidia 16-25×6-7.5µm, clavate, thin walled, hyaline. Spore print brown. Edibility unknown.

India, Maharashtra, Kolhapur, Panhala, Pombare (16°43ʹ12ʺN-73°55ʹ53ʺE), on soil, solitary, scattered, 20.06.2021, Bornak, S. I., Biranje. S. S. and Patil, Y. S. (Y21V4C7). 

Remarks

Agaricus placomyces has high phenol content and was suspected to be poisonous and better to be avoided (Petrova, et al., 2007; Al-Momany and Gucel, 2009). This species has been reported from Pune and Amravati in Maharashtra state and from Himachal Pradesh and Punjab (Kaur, et al., 2018). This is the first report from study area.
